Shoot &  Burn

Recently in wedding photography there is a trend among couples to want to hire a wedding photographer to shoot their weddings and provide them with a disk of the shots with copyright privileges.

I am offering this service as a courtesy but please realize this is not a way to save money. This service is usually for special circumstances rather than cost saving benefits.

Perceived advantage:
I can get all the pictures I want done at the local one hour photo place and it's the same thing.
Reality:
You are still paying the photographer for the copyright. G&K's philosophy is to  provide you with the excellent pictures at a reasonable rate. Also you lose the quality control on your images. I cannot correct photos for a lab I do not deal with. The lab I use is a professional lab, not a mail order or 1 hour place. My   photos go through 4 levels of quality control where a consumer lab may not even  give you 1.

Perceived advantages:
I can save money this way.
Reality:
You are still paying the photographer for the rights to the photos. You may find someone willing to do it for less or that is the only way they conduct business,  shoot and hand you a disk,  but this is usually the sign of an amateur. This is your special day. You want to remember it for ever. What is left after the day? The top tier of your cake  to eat on your first anniversary, the rings and the photos.

I am a professional photographer willing to keep my rates down. I do this because I enjoy it. I have another job to pay the bills. I do not have any overhead for my company other than my equipment. I am licensed and have insurance. Don't trust one of the most important days of your life to  an amateur.

When you consider a Fair Maiden wedding package gives you 7 hours of coverage, retouching, online proof gallery, 4 levels of quality control, wedding album with 20 - 8X8 photos of your choice and an 11X14  of your choice created by a professional lab for $899 versus a 7 hour shoot and burn session gives you a disk for $1050.

*wedding rates have a 3 hour minimum
**unscheduled overage is billed at one and a half timed the normal rate.
